Employee checks
Employee checks are an essential part of our recruitment process and ensure that we meet our obligation to maintain a safe and secure organisation.
On acceptance you will be subject to the following checks:
- Identity – You will be asked to bring your passport or birth certificate to the interview to confirm identity. A photocopy will be taken and securely stored. If your interview is via telephone or video–conference you will be asked to bring these on your first day, if appointed. Qualifications will be verified by sight of original certificates.
- Employment history – We verify the information you have supplied to us on your application form by contacting any former employers within the last three years. This will sometimes be in addition to the professional referees supplied. Any gaps in employment will be investigated and we require written evidence to support it, e.g. declaration from the Job Centre, a copy of official accounts for any periods of self–employment or proof of overseas travel.
- Nationality/Immigration status – This may be confirmed on sight of a passport/birth certificate. For some nationalities a work permit may also be required. Our recruitment team will assist with any applications.
- Criminal – Self-declaration, which may be followed by an additional check through Disclosure Scotland (Criminal Records Department)
- Health – Declaration required and, if necessary, a medical examination
- Probation – Employees are subject to an initial probationary period of eight months.
