About us

Cefas is at the heart of marine and fisheries management in the UK, helping to shape and implement government policy through our internationally renowned science.

The growing importance of the marine environment within the context of what the WWF call “one planet living” – with its attendant issues surrounding climate change and the use of natural resources – has been recognised by the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the EU and others worldwide. This means there are huge opportunities emerging. Cefas is uniquely placed to exploit these through our broad range of advisory, research and monitoring services. We are actively seeking to bring in the talent that will help us to make a real and tangible impact for our customers on major societal issues and to deliver growth for the agency.

We currently employ almost 550 people at our laboratories in Lowestoft and Weymouth. Our research facilities include an ocean–going research vessel, the RV Cefas Endeavour, and our project activities span fisheries management, environment and biodiversity protection, and aquaculture. These are delivered to a customer base that is predominantly in the UK public - sector, but which includes a growing number of international and private sector customers.

We have exciting opportunities for you to develop and grow - so you can meet your potential, help to transform the business and, in doing so, create a healthier marine environment for yourself and future generations.

We very much hope that you will want to be part of our future success and look forward to hearing from you.
